NNA's dedicated neuro-rehab program is a multidisciplinary team approach to rehabilitation, working together for the benefit of patients, consisting of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and audiology services, aquatic therapy, neurologists, neuropsychologists and nurse practitioners.
Our goal is to return patients to the highest possible level of function and independence at home, at work and in the community.
Patients receive comprehensive treatment from therapists who are experts in neurorehabilitation of specific disorders. The whole person—physical and psychosocial—is taken into account.
NNA therapists help patients with various neurological disorders
Alleviate specific physical deficits
Following an evaluation, NNA's neuro-rehab staff establishes appropriate plans of care and adaptive
equipment to alleviate specific physical deficits and maximize the patient’s ability to perform daily activities.
Each patient's therapy program is custom designed by a licensed, experienced NNA therapist with specialized expertise in neruo-rehabilitation. Patients perform their individualized program with guidance from NNA’s trained, caring team of therapists.
Fast answers to important questions
Referring physicians receive initial and subsequent progress reports in a timely fashion.
Should questions arise during a therapy session, an integrated e-mail system allows therapists immediate contact with physicians—one of the benefits of having multiple services under one roof.
Patients' medical information also is readily available to therapists through NNA's electronic medical records system.
Occupational & physical therapy

NNA's occupational and physical therapists utilize the latest techniques and equipment to help achieve maximum functional outcomes. From therapeutic exercise, stretching and strengthening to walking, wheelchair proficiency, balance training and much more, patients receive comprehensive treatment focused on the specific disorder.
Since the patient receives neurological care and therapy in one place, the physician can more carefully individualize the services, more closely follow the patient, and order treatment when warranted.

Aquatic therapy

Aquatic therapy is a rehabilitative exercise program using the physical properties of water to assist in patient healing and enhance functional performance. Potential aquatic therapy candidates include patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, stroke, low-back pain and fibromyalgia.
Patients with all levels of disability have easy access to NNA’s 4,000-gallon warm-water aqua-therapy pool via hydraulic lift or stairs with handrail. Aquatic therapy can make a significant difference in their quality of life at home, at work and in the community.
Speech therapy and audiology services
Speech therapy and audiology services have been established onsite in partnership with The University of Akron's graduate program in speech pathology and audiology, giving patients access to cutting-edge technology and techniques.
NNA's neuro-rehab facilities
NNA's neuro-rehab complex, conveniently located in its downtown Akron Neuroscience Center, offers a 6,000-square-foot gym with the latest therapy equipment, six private treatment rooms and a warm-water therapy pool. Virtually all of the rehabilitative services patients need are within a few hundred feet of their neurologist's office.
